Purpose of the Site
This site is designed for people who need a clearer statewide view of Iowa custody records. County sheriffs manage local jail rosters for recent arrests, pretrial detention, and many short local sentences. The Iowa Department of Corrections, commonly abbreviated IDOC, maintains a separate offender search for people in state prison custody, parole, probation, and other supervision categories. Federal and immigration custody use separate national systems, and court filings appear through Iowa Judicial Branch resources.
The goal is to make those boundaries easier to understand without presenting this site as the source of the official record. Iowa Inmate Population publishes explanatory guides, directory pages, and links to the public systems that already exist.
